The stakeholder's administrator approached me with an idea to create a logo that would help promote the pilots' union. Her concept centered around combining the words "you" and "union," with the addition of "101" to symbolize education and foundational knowledge. Since the logo was intended for a department within the pilots' union, it needed to visually reflect that identity. To achieve this, I incorporated pilot figures into the “O” and added a dynamic sense of movement by illustrating an airplane swooping around the zero, bringing balance, motion, and a clear aviation theme to the design.

The Positive Rate logo was designed to replace the previous version, which neither reflected the meaning behind the podcast's name nor met the visual requirements for online platforms. In researching the term, I learned that "positive rate" is an aviation phrase used by the monitoring pilot to confirm the aircraft is climbing safely after takeoff, prompting the flying pilot to respond with "gear up," signaling the retraction of the landing gear. This insight inspired the final design: a sleek, upward-flying aircraft that visually captures the idea of lift, progress, and momentum, perfectly aligning with the spirit of the podcast.

I was tasked with designing a logo for the Sudden Grief Response Program (SGRP), which is a subcommittee of the Aeromedical Committee at the Allied Pilots Association (APA). To ensure that the logo accurately reflected the program's mission and purpose, I took the time to understand their role: they serve as the first point of contact for pilots and their families during times of crisis, whether due to fatigue, illness, family challenges, or the loss of a loved one. The committee provides immediate, compassionate support and guidance in these deeply challenging moments. To maintain visual consistency, I incorporated the color palette from the program’s existing brochure. I then created six logo concepts, each designed to convey tenderness, empathy, and a strong sense of care. It was essential for the final logo to communicate not only professionalism but also the program’s unwavering commitment to being a comforting and supportive presence when it is needed most.
