The stakeholder's administrator approached me with the idea of creating a logo to help promote the union. Her concept was to combine "you" and "union" and incorporate "101" to symbolize learning and information. Since this was for a department within the pilots' union, it needed to reflect that. Therefore, I included the pilots on the "O" and added movement and balance by depicting an airplane swooping around the zero.
The Positive Rate logo was created to replace the previous one as it didn't reflect the meaning of the podcast name or fit the parameters needed for online content. I learned that "positive rate" is a phrase used by the monitoring pilot to indicate that the aircraft is climbing safely away from the ground. The flying pilot responds by saying "gear up," which signals the monitoring pilot to move the landing gear lever up. This information inspired me to design the final logo with an aircraft flying upward.
